Night Owl Books is delighted to announce the publication of two limited edition poetry pamphlets this June, from two wonderfully talented Macclesfield poets – Lisa Matthews and Sarah Taylor-Fergusson.
The collections – Darlings, Deletions by Lisa Matthews, and Rhymes for Young Nature Lovers by Sarah Taylor-Fergusson – are dazzling poetic journeys, both formally innovative and emotionally charged. Both have been previously published in The Greenhouse, Macclesfield’s literary and arts journal, as well as a number of other prestigious literary publications around the United Kingdom.
Lisa Matthews is a Bollington resident, poet, and creative writing scholar. Her pioneering new collection Darlings, Deletions introduces her new poetic form, the ‘present text’. Influenced by the artworks of Jill Tate, the life of US marine biologist Rachel Carson, and – most of all – tenderly heartfelt grief, Darlings, Deletions is a striking and inspiring collection from an important North West poet.
Sarah Taylor-Fergusson is a Macclesfield resident, poet, literary consultant and editor. Moving, witty, and wry, Rhymes for Young Nature Lovers takes a winding path through the landscape of Britain, a family’s dusty natural history books, and the writer’s own memory. In her debut pamphlet, Sarah Taylor-Fergusson combines a poet’s sensibility with the incisive eye of a perennial collector, making Rhymes for Young Nature Lovers a volume which will be treasured.
The publications will be celebrated at a special launch event at Macclesfield’s home of poetry, The Button Warehouse on Thursday 15th June 2023 – and will feature readings from both poets. The event coincides with Macclesfield’s Barnaby Festival – the town’s biennial celebration of the arts in Macclesfield. There will be a fully stocked bar, and modern British canapés will be provided by New North.
